Spectator turnout for Delhi CWG will pick up soon: Organizing Committee
New Delhi: The Delhi Commonwealth Games organizers have dismissed talks that locals are boycotting the event, and insisted that the spectator turnout at venues will pick up soon. Fewer than 100 spectators turned up to watch the Australia-Samoa netball match on Monday. Even the appearance of Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna failed to draw much support, as he played in front of about 200 spectators at the RK Khanna Stadium. However, Delhi Games Organizing Committee spokesman Lalit Bhanot blamed Sunday's Opening Ceremony, which finished after 10pm, for the small Monday morning turnout. "It will pick up soon. The crowds will come," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Bhanot, as saying. Meanwhile, a source close to the Organizing Committee said that ticket sales have picked up dramatically after the success of the opening ceremony. "There were also plans to bring in school children to fill seats," the source added.
