PM asks Jaipal Reddy, GoM to keep strict supervision of CWG's pending work
New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday asked Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy and members of the Group of Ministers (GoM) to keep strict supervision on pending work related to Commonwealth Games. PM's directions came following a high level meeting held at his residence in the evening today to review the preparations ahead of the XIXth Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held between Oct. 3 to 14. Presided over by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, it was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Union Sports Minister M.S.Gill and Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy. Union Home Secretary G.K.Pillai was also present in the meeting. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister today declined to meet Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) chief Michael Fennell, said television reports late on Thursday evening. Fennell has been asked to meet Cabinet Secretary K.M.Chandrasekhar or Group of Ministers with regard to his concerns about the Games to be held in October in the capital, the report added. Fennell was expected to meet Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Thursday to press for his continual intervention to save the XIXth Commonwealth Games from possible collapse. But the meet could not take place, said television reports.
