Michelle Obama's portrait to be placed at Smithsonian's National Gallery
Washington:The portraits of US First Lady Michelle Obama and business magnate Martha Stewart would be reportedly placed at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington. A New York-based
artist Mickalene Thomas has crafted the portrait of Michelle Obama. Obama's face
is depicted as screen print in black, white and robin's egg blue. Although the
president and his wife's portrait is already presnet in the gallery, this is the
first time the First Lady's solo portrait would be placed there, Daily News reported.
Stewart's is a digital pigment print by William Abranowicz. The piece shows the
business magnate and kitchen whiz sitting behind a large white table with her
arms crossed in front of her laptop, coffee mug and telephone. The pieces would
reportedly be showcased in the new exhibition, "American Now," which opened last
week. It features individuals prominent in sports, entertainment, business, government,
the science and arts. The portraits would be on display throughout July in 2011.
