Indian tennis stars threaten to pull out of CWG over non-payment of dues
New Delhi:The top Indian tennis stars have threatened to pull out of the 2010 Commonwealth Games over non-payment of dues by the All India Tennis Association (AITA) and the Central Government. The sporting fraternity seems to be backing the players on this, as they have lashed out at the AITA over the treatment meted out to the players. The AITA on its part has, however, held Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Central Government responsible, saying they must look into the matter as far as payments for the Asian Games and Olympics are concerned. It has been reported that top tennis players like Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna have sent an ultimatum to the All India Tennis Association after their dues were left unpaid. The Commonwealth Games 2010 is India's biggest sporting event since the 1982 Asian Games. India is expecting about two million tourists in New Delhi for the Games, as well as about 10,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states.
