Bodhgaya on Heritage List

          NEW DELHI: The World Heritage Committee of UNESCO has listed Mahabodhi temple complex at Bodhgaya in Bihar as a World Heritage site. The Darjeeling Himalayan train was the last Indian site declared as World Heritage site.

UK, US, Others Ask Their Citizens to Leave India

          NEW DELHI: Thousands of Britons and Americans have been advised by their respective governments to leave India based on the apprehension of an impending nuclear conflict in the sub-continent between India and Pakistan.

          The British consular alert, which was co-ordinated with Washington, on June 1 advised the estimated 20,000 expatriate Britons in India to "consider leaving." The advice was also applicable to non-essential British diplomatic staff, intending travellers and tourists already there.Germany, Australia, Canada and New Zealand have also taken similar steps.

          Diplomats of the US and British embassies started leaving the country.

          On June 4, the British High Commission decided not to accept any fresh application for visas.

          On June 7, the Japanese governement chartered a Japanese Airline plane to evacuate its nationals from India.The Japanese Airline also scrapped one of its bi-weekly flights on the Tokyo-Delhi route.
