New Delhi: Bhaiya Dooj was celebrated across the country today even as sister prayed for long life for their brothers. They applied tilak on the brothers' forehead, offered them sweets, and in return the latter gave them gifts. The festival symbolises the strong family ties that scriptures advocate for Hindu families. It also celebrates the bond and affection between sisters and brothers. A young girl Nancy said that she wished long life for her brother. "Bhaiya Dooj is a very important festival for us. We do this for the long life of our brothers," said Nancy, a girl, who offered special prayers for her brothers. "For a brother, it means more responsibility towrds her sister. It means a lot of grace anf it is a very graceful relationship," said Indrajeet. The festival falls on the next day of Diwali.
